Aspire Pupil Tracking – case study

St. Luke's Primary and Nursery School

"Aspire Pupil Tracking is saving us all huge amounts of time. We’re also finding that the teachers themselves have been able to take control of their own classes and information which has made things much easier."

St Luke’s Primary School use FFT Aspire Pupil Tracking alongside FFT Aspire as part of their focus on educating the whole child. The school strives to create a culture of constant improvement, and work to better understand the strengths of their children.

Aspire Pupil Tracking helps them achieve this.

We spoke with Senior Assessment Leader Dean Scott, at St Luke’s Primary and Nursery School to find out how the school is using Aspire Pupil Tracking.

Saving teachers’ time

As Assessment Leader at the school, he previously found that tracking pupils was overly time-consuming and was creating missed opportunities for the school’s pupils. Use of internal spreadsheets was leading to confusion and would often take days to input all of the necessary pupil assessment data.

“The data is almost instant now. I used to be responsible for the use of assessment data across the school, and it would take me days to get everything in.

Aspire Pupil Tracking is saving us all huge amounts of time. We’re also finding that the teachers themselves have been able to take control of their own classes and information which has made things much easier.

We were using internal spreadsheets before, which worked to a degree but was so time intensive. Now, the data is just there for us. The system is so easy to use too and has been really well received by my colleagues.”

Improving opportunities for pupils

Aspire Pupil Tracking forms an integral part of progress meetings at the school. At St Luke’s they have been using Aspire Pupil Tracking to identify ‘below expected progress’ pupils, which has been made easier than ever and is drawing attention to those who could have slipped through the net.

“Now that we are able to spot those pupils that might have been missed before is amazing, as Aspire Pupil Tracking is giving us the best information to put the right things in place for the right pupils.

We’re using the system to compare progress, and the reports are being used to directly inform reading and maths interventions with pupils. We have been able to identify pupils that we might not have spotted before, which has been fantastic.

The ability to drill down into individual issues at such depth has made this so much easier.”

“The ability to have all of our data under one roof builds the biggest and best picture of a pupil, as all of the information is held in the same place. The link to the school MIS means that it’s always up to date, too."

The right information at the right time

Having used FFT Aspire for a number of years, Dean described the move to Aspire Pupil Tracking as the next logical step to getting a full picture of assessment and past performance at the school.

“The ability to have all of our data under one roof builds the biggest and best picture of a pupil, as all of the information is held in the same place. The link to the school MIS means that it’s always up to date, too.

Having this information in a system that is so user friendly also means that teachers find it easy to use. The fact that everything is displayed in a common currency keeps our teachers on a level playing field across our different year groups and key stages as we’re now all speaking the same language. ”

“Aspire Pupil Tracking has helped us create the best picture of assessment at our school. Compared to other systems we’ve been able to find information that we just didn’t have access to before.”
