Why did William Cassidi Primary School choose FFT Success for All Phonics?
William Cassidi Primary felt that the original Success For All programme was very successful for their school and was keen to see how this could be further enhanced with the new FFT version. They thought the programme itself seemed very comprehensive, and the materials — such as the GPC cards and the shared readers — were colourful and engaging.
The school was impressed with the extensive training for staff, including videos of different parts of the programme being delivered. They also felt there was a good mix of both live sessions, where the FFT team are on hand to answer questions and give important updates, and recorded sessions that staff can access when needed.

Our children make great progress with FFT Success for All Phonics. They learn new GPCs quickly, alongside blending and segmenting. They enjoy practising these skills and other reading skills through the shared readers. They become confident readers, ready to enjoy the Routes to Reading programme in Year 2.
Implementing the programme

Having previously used Success for All for nine years, William Cassidi introduced the new FFT Success for All Phonics programme in EYFS last year and is now extending it to Year 1. In the 2023/2024 academic year, EYFS staff will be refining the delivery of the phonics programme, while Year 1 staff will begin implementing it for the first time.
Year 2 pupils at the school will be using the Spelling with the Jungle Club and Routes to Reading schemes.

Reading progress made
Staff at the school have found that children are excited to read the books and enjoy accessing the books online at home. This has had a positive impact on their learning in class and staff are often amazed to see the progress made from the start to the end of the week.

Spotlight on pupil progress
The children retain the phonics sounds through the different activities and are then able to transfer these skills to other areas of the curriculum. They love to develop their skills further through playing the Class Play games on Tutoring with the Lightning Squad and can often be heard using the rhymes to help them sound out unfamiliar words. Teachers have found this particularly helpful in Year 1 when preparing for the Phonics Screening Check.
