Why did Gatley Primary School choose FFT Success for All Phonics?

Gatley Primary chose FFT Success for All Phonics because it provides a structured, evidence-based approach that guarantees consistency and success in early reading. The programme’s comprehensive training, high-quality resources, and strong support for staff and families align perfectly with the school’s commitment to every child learning to read confidently. Its focus on early intervention and progression ensures that all pupils, including those who struggle, make rapid gains. The wider FFT literacy suite — Tutoring with the Lightning Squad, Spelling with the Jungle Club, and the Reading Assessment Programme — offers a cohesive pathway from phonics to fluent reading and writing, making FFT the ideal choice.

“FFT's tailored training and ongoing classroom support have empowered our teachers to refine their phonics instruction with confidence and precision. The measurable improvements in our students' reading fluency and decoding skills demonstrate that this evidence-based programme truly delivers world-class literacy outcomes for our diverse learners.”

Gatley Primary has been using Success for All Phonics since 2021. All teaching and support staff receive comprehensive training, including induction, refresher CPD, in-class mentoring, and targeted intervention coaching. As a lead delivery school within its MAT, Gatley facilitates network meetings, delivers CPD sessions, and models best practice. Staff also complete FFT training in complementary programmes such as FFT Tutoring with the Lightning Squad and FFT Spelling with the Jungle Club, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery. Ofsted (July 2024) praised the school for delivering phonics “with an extremely high level of consistency.”

Spotlight on pupil progress

Pupil A moved from a score of 1 on the practice phonics assessment to 37 by June, showing dramatic improvement in decoding and blending skills. He now reads full sentences with growing fluency and confidence, actively participating in Shared Reader activities.
I really like singing The Alphabet Chant and doing the actions. I like the rhymes we say too.
