Best practice in reading for primary schools
New government policy and best practice research
The new DfE reading framework: an essential introduction for primary schools
The Framework, published in July 2021, is the first major DfE report on reading since the 2014 National Curriculum programme of study and the 2006 Rose Review. It clearly underpins Ofsted’s increasing focus on reading, apparent in the latest inspection framework.
This free CPD session will highlight important messages from the new Framework and key areas where schools may want to develop their practice further.
Improving literacy in KS1: 8 key actions for schools
The new EEF Guidance documents present the best of what is known about effective classroom practice, based on current and robust research. This free CPD will focus on recommendations for improving reading in the report.
As well as considering research into phonics and decoding, we will highlight the important new findings on vocabulary and comprehension, and how talk underpins learning. A key message will be the importance of consistency – and not just in the teaching of phonics.
Improving literacy in KS2: 7 key actions for schools
The EEF Guidance documents present the best of what is known about effective classroom practice, based on current and robust research. The KS2 document has recently been republished and updated. This webinar will focus on recommendations for reading, and key areas for discussion will be reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.
Teachers in KS2, school leaders and literacy leads will gain a quick understanding of the key points of the EEF publication, key action points to take in their reading policy and teaching and areas to develop.
